MOMMY Entry #5: A sleeping kid
His breathing slows and becomes rythmic. The tiny fold in his eye lid becomes smooth. This is how I can tell he’s reached an unconcious state as I fake sleep next to him. Yes! I can get up and get some stuff done. My 3-yr old is my “good” sleeper. Still napping and I can usually get him down in less than an hour (this is good!?!). I love sleep. Why aren’t humans born with an inate appreciation for sleep? No one really understands the value of sleep until they have kids. Any new parent can tell you this. I think I had an early appreciation for sleep, as can be documented by my childhood friends that I abandoned on Saturday mornings and were left stuck watching cartoons with my little brother. Nothing’s better than a sleeping kid. No, not just because they are asleep and therefore quiet, but because one can never witness such peace and tranquility as you see in a sleeping child. Adults hit deep sleep but what adult would allow someone to pick them up, carry them up a flight of stairs and heave them into the top of a bunk bed? I don’t care if there was a giant living in my house that could actually carry my behind up the stairs, I would wake up. Nope, nothing beats a sleeping kid. Unfortunately, I have to wake mine up now. That’s always real pleasant…
